It was a great honor to be awarded the NCRS Member of the Year for 2020. I believe my energy and enthusiasm for NCRS, using social media to recruit new members nationwide and jumpstarting my local chapter were some of the reasons I was chosen to receive this award.
Oh, if I knew then what I know now! I have to say my passion for Corvettes has been lifelong, but my passion for NCRS all started with this 1968 L71 Corvette Convertible. There is a whole story about this car and how it introduced me to some of the best people in the NCRS. Without the car, I would never have met the people, and without the people, I wouldn't be involved with NCRS.
If there is any award in the NCRS that will teach you humility, it is the PV - Performance Verification. To date I have accomplished this with my 1981 L81 and my 1979 L82. I have also guided a close friend thru PV with his 1960. There is no award more difficult, yet so rewarding as the PV and having passed three of them is something I consider a great accomplishment.
Earning the Dave McLellan award with my 1981 Corvette was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. I have owned my L81 for over 20 years, but was told many times by senior NCRS Judges that it "wasn't really judging worthy" and we don't really like to judge these low powered Corvettes. Achieving both the McLellan and Bowtie awards with my favorite Corvette was a lifetime dream fulfilled!
thank you NCRS & Mr. McLellan.
The NCRS Generational Award is designed to promote family participating in the judging process at a regional or national judging meet. Being able to share my passion for Corvettes with my son and daughter is an experience that few will get to experience. I thank NCRS for inventing this additional award for families to earn together. These are memories that will last in our family for ever.
It has been a great honor to earn Top Flights, Bowtie & McLellan awards at all NCRS National events since 2018. In 2022 I will be presenting my 1979 L82 for Bowtie & McLellan awards. I am in the process of helping other NCRS friends earn their Duntov, McLellan, Bowtie & Sportsman awards at the 2022 national Convention. Helping other NCRS members achieve an award is even more exciting than my own.
What else needs to be said? Many of you know how difficult a NCRS 4 Star Bowtie award is, and I am proud to say I earned one with my 1981 Corvette. I have had the car for over 20 years and it was a great honor to have the car recognized at the NCRS Palm Springs Convention 2021. During 2022 & 2023 I am displaying the car to qualify to earn its 5th star in French Lick 2023.
As a parent, I am sure you understand the excitement and satisfaction of seeing a child be successful. My daughter Ashley worked so hard to get our 1993 Black Rose Corvette ready and then successfully judged. Its my hope that she will be a lifelong NCRS member and enjoy the hobby for many years to come.
Of all the success and accolades I have earned in the NCRS, this white ribbon is maybe the best one of all. Ask me about it sometime over drinks and I will share with you why this white one trumps the blue and yellow ones all day long!
Just home from the 2022 NCRS National Convention and very proud to have earned a 4 Star Bowtie as well as McLellan awards for my 1979 Corvette L82. Many of you know the difficulty in achieving the McLellan which includes passing the NCRS Performance Verification. Its a great honor to be the current caretaker of this beautiful 1979 Corvette L82 and help it earn the awards it deserves.
